About Me
A Little Bit About Me
My name is Daniela McKamey, and I am an Indigenous student at the University of the Fraser Valley, where I am currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in History. From a young age, I’ve been passionate about teaching. I vividly remember one Christmas when I received a whiteboard and created my own classroom in my playroom. I’d make lesson plans, take attendance, and would eagerly "teach" my little brother or anyone who happened to be at my house. It was clear to me even then that I was destined to become a teacher, one who would offer the kind of learning experience I always wished I had growing up.My first two years at UFV were a challenge as I struggled to find the right path. I knew I wanted to teach, but I wasn't sure which subject would align with my passions. While I’ve always been deeply connected to my Indigenous roots, I discovered that my true academic interest lies in History. This major allows me to explore both my love for history and my commitment to Indigenous studies.Upon completing my degree, I plan to further my education by pursuing a Bachelor of Education at the University of British Columbia, with the goal of becoming a teacher who can inspire and guide future generations.Outside of my academic journey, I prioritize spending time with my friends, family, and my loyal companion, Frankie, who follows me everywhere I go. I love the outdoors, and I love staying active. In the summer, you’ll find me paddleboarding, while in the winter I’m out snowboarding. Between the two seasons, I stay fit by lifting weights and running, making time for myself and movement is an integral part of my life.
